On the subject of touchscreens..
I have another little cartoon RANT, and questionnaire up that I’d like to invite comments on..
Each time I use a Tablet Pc, or my giant Cintiq Tablet.. I find myself wishing… darn! I wish this thing had capacitive touch! ( The type of touch screen found in most Android phones, and most famously, Mapple’s eye-phone.) I keep thinking that there has to be a simple solution to adding touch capability to any screen.. but is is small, portable…? Easy to use? I throw the question forward to the internets, along with some little drawings of what I think such a device should be.. (send any royalties, random technology parts, foodstuffs, liquor, and or love / hate mail c/o Chad Essley, under that tree in the rain, Stumptown OR)
La la la..

A pretty similar idea was in our research paper on “inverted FTIR” from ITS 2009 this year, see video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARvtruxJDH4

Well, it’s not that crazy of an idea… HP’s “Touchsmart” computers use a two-camera (each on a corner) system and triangulate finger position from that.

Hello.
You could just go on and use a touch screen panel/film if you don’t need multi-touch capabilities. The cheap ones are resistive vs capacitive (the ones iPhone have).

This brought a smile to my face. Something similar to ur idea does exist but would not be practicle for a tablet. All that WiiMote tracking stuff thats floating around the internerds. I’ll tweet this for you if you like…..

Thanks guys! Yeah, ultimately, I’d like to avoid an overlay..don’t need multitouch either.
I realize this is a silly post, and I’m fairly familiar with most of the technology out there..but I thought.. Who better than the Hack A Day readers to know about or figure out something that might work?! Cheers everybody. And welcome to the blog. I try and do a drawing a day for my own personal online sketchbook here, and I rant about tablets / technology and stuff on occasion.. so welcome!
