The Buzz!

Whooey!

My pal John Hill over at Tablet PC Buzz, just linked me up.
If I knew I’d have company I’d have tidied the place up!  Excuse the mess!

I thought I’d post up a brief profile for those who are visiting the site for the first time:

So who is this CartoonMonkey guy anyway? My name is Chad Essley and I run a small animation business in Portland Oregon called CartoonMonkey Studio.  I specialize in 2d character animation for children’s education and child / adult entertainment. I develop finished animation from conception to completion for games, or short films. Have a project in mind? Take a look at my REEL for some samples, and get in contact and I’ll give you a quote!

I’m a technology enthusiast, and I’ve been following the development of art and multimedia as it relates to computers since the earliest days of home computing. The Tablet PC became a central interest for me when it debuted back in 2003-4 and the right combination of hardware and active digitizers became available. I couldn’t believe it when I saw Bill Gate’s vision of tablet computing. A little clipboard computer with a pressure sensitive drawing stylus! Amazing and perfect for my work. I’ve been using Wacom products since they were invented, and doing drawings on tablet based computers, on almost every platform I could get my hands on. ( Going back to the Koala Pad on the Commodore 64!)

So, I started to use tablets pretty heavily in my work and follow the tablet scene closely in the blogosphere. This eventually led to some folks at Microsoft finding me, and flying me up to do some work on a top secret bit of children’s software. An amazing experience with a lot of great people.

So, the website is and has been, a place for my digital sketchbook, a place about tips and tricks for the Tablet PC, a portal for my business, and my general place that I rant about stuff I care about.

In 2011 however, I might mix things up a bit. I’ll still continue the sketchblog, but the site is long overdue for an overhaul to better represent my work, and take the blogging portion over to a secondary site.

I’ve got a few tablet reviews coming this year in the near future, so stay tuned!

2011 is turning out to be the year of the tablet, and I personally want to make sure the Tablet PC stays relevant in a world that’s ever increasingly leaning toward lower powered mobile devices.

Huge regards and Happy New Year.
-Chad Essley

I'm not dead yet!

..Merely sleeping. Well, blogging wise, that is.

Just finishing my big project, and then back to posts! Lots of cool stuff at CES, and a new Tablet on the horizon…

Stay tuned true believers..
